It appears North-west motorists were generally well behaved on the roads over the recent King’s Birthday Long Weekend, with police conducting seven targeted traffic operations between Circular Head and Latrobe over the three days, and not one driver caught drink-driving.

However, two returned positive results on oral fluid tests for drugs and 32 were caught speeding.

An 18 year-old man from Burnie allegedly evaded police on Saturday on the Old Bass Highway at Wynyard.

He was eventually apprehended and charged with evading police and driving without a licence and bailed to appear in court at a later date.

Three people were nabbed for failing to wear a seat blt, three for using a mobile phone while driving and one disqualified driver.

Police say it’s pleasing no drink-drivers were detected, but still concerning that some drivers engage in risky behaviour, including driving under the influence of illicit drugs, speed, failing to wear seat belts and use mobile phones while driving.
