Police say Devonport fires were deliberate

Police are on the hunt for a possible arsonist in the Devonport area, following two suspicious fires on Monday night and early Tuesday morning.

Emergency services were called to a structure fire on Devonport Road at Quoiba around 11.40 pm on Monday night following multiple triple zero calls, finding the building well alight on arrival.

Fire crews from Devonport and Latrobe eventually brought the blaze under control, with an estimated $120,000 in damage.

Police say the building was vacant at the time and no injuries were reported.

Around 90 minutes later, emergency services were called to a vehicle fire at a nearby car repair business on Stony Rise Road, at Stony Rise, around 1am.

The fire had spread to two other vehicles in the yard before it was extinguished.

Police want to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the fires or anyone acting suspiciously in either or both areas, by contacting them on 131 444, or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000, or on-line at crimestopperstas.com.au
