The seat of Braddon could record one of the biggest swings in the nation at this Saturday’s Federal Election according to the latest YouGov poll.
The poll, commissioned by Australian Community Media, is predicting veteran labor politician and former senator Anne Urquhart to take the seat currently held by the Liberals.
Retiring member Gavin Pearce on the seat in 2022 with an 8% margin on a two-party preferred basis, but the poll is predicting Mrs Urquhart to win the seat by as much as 8%, representing a massive 16% swing against the coalition.
The poll shows Liberal newcomer Mal Hingston winning 30.6% of the primary vote, with 33.2% to Mrs Urquhart.
On a two-party-preferred basis, Labor would claim 54% of the vote, compared to the coalition’s 46%.
Meanwhile, the same poll has Labor retaining the seat of Lyons, left vacant by retiring member Brian Mitchell, with former Tasmanian opposition leader Rebecca White gaining 56% of the vote on a two-party preferred basis, compared to Liberal candidate Susie Bower’s 44%.
