A children’s literacy programme which started in Devonport is set to go national.
Read Aloud To Your Child Every Day founder and former Nationals Senator Steve Martin says councils around the country, schools, parent groups, speech pathologists book and reading advocates will be encouraged to come on board and spread the message.
Mr Martin, who is also the Tasmanian president of the Children’s Book Council of Australia says one in three children in Australia don’t reach literacy and numeracy expectations as defined by NAPLAN, and one in 10 are so far behind they need additional support.
He says part of the cause is mixed messaging from various agencies, including governments and he’s encouraging organisations to add the Read Aloud To Your Child Every Day banner to their own email signatures and logos.
