Motorists in Northern Tasmania are being reminded to exercise caution on flooded roads.
It comes as the region braces for more rain later today and into Monday.
The Bureau of Meteorology is predicting as much as 35mm of rain to fall in the Launceston region from later this afternoon through to Monday.
An SES spokesman said while not representing a large amount of rain, it does follow an already lengthy period of wet weather which has left the ground saturated.
“This means we could see a lot of run-off in the form of flash flooding,” he said.
River levels in the region are not expected to reach the same levels witnessed earlier in the week where the Meander River reached 6.8m – just a fraction under its 7 metre major flooding level.
However, there is a possibility roads and other access routes might experience some form of inundation.
“We’re asking people to observe road closures and any other road signs they might see as they go about their travels,” he said.
“Those signs are there for a reason; whether it’s due to flooding, debris on the road or another reason that makes it unsafe. Don’t ignore the signs and try and make it through. It’s not worth the risk.”
