Findings of a review into Tasmania’s education system and why results significantly trail the mainland are expected to be in the government’s hands by the end of the year.
The Year 12 achievement rate is far less than the national average.
Education Minister Jo Palmer announced the review in a visit to Riverside Primary School.
“Be able to have a clear focus on the socio-economic characteristics of Tasmania, how that actually intersects with our educational space and what we can do to ensure that over the next 10 years we continue to have a clear focus on education.”
Hobart Demographer with UTAS, Lisa Denny, applauds the initiative.
“It is now time that we must do something to really understand and forensically analyse what has actually been going on in our education system so that we can reverse this worrying trend.”
