The Latrobe Council has closed one of two new children’s slides at the Banksia Playground at Port Sorell over safety concerns, following approaches from several families.
In a post on its Facebook page, the council says even though the slide meets all Australian standards, in light of concerns raised, it has chosen to close the slide to conduct a thorough investigation, saying the safety of the community is a top priority.
The council says it will work to ensure its playgrounds remain safe for all users.
It’s not the first time a children’s slide has recently caused issues on the North-West Coast.
Last year, the Waratah-Wynyard Council was forced to close a slide at its new all-abilities playground at Somerset following several serious injuries to children.
