Swans senior comeback delayed, colts push ahead

One of the most anticipated comebacks in Coastal football will have to wait for at least another year, with East Devonport withdrawing its bid to field a senior team in this year’s NWFL competition.

The Swans withdrew from the NWFL seniors, reserves and colts competitions in 2021, citing player shortages, but kept its junior programmes running.

Last year the club was granted provisional admission in November to rejoin the league’s seniors and colts teams, with a deadline of January 31 to shore up numbers.

That deadline passed yesterday and East Devonport has decided to put plans on hold until next year.

However, it’s not all bad news, with the club deciding to push ahead with a colts side, which will re-join the competition for the upcoming 2024 season.

East Devonport isn’t the only NWFL club to find itself in a similar situation, with the Circular Head Giants pulling out in 2019, but coming back as the Circular Head Saints in 2022.
