A truck rollover this morning near St Marys has claimed the life of a man in his 60s who was behind the wheel.
The cause of the Semmens Road crash is being investigated.
Police Commander Tim Dooley commenting that at 49, Tasmania’s road toll this year is much worse.
“This time last year it was at 29 so there is a significant increase in the number of Tasmanians who have lost their lives on the roads.”
Police Minister Felix Ellis issued a statement on care when driving.
“Over the course of today, there has been heavy rainfall across the South East, East Coast, Midlands and Central Plateau.
There has also been snow and ice in some parts of the State – I’ve witnessed firsthand the snowy conditions confronting drivers on the West Coast today.
We all need to be careful and drive to the conditions – it is everyone’s responsibility to drive safely.
Any death on our roads is heartbreaking and sadly we have seen another fatality today.
If you are driving in an area affected by rain, ice or snow – remember roads will be slippery and reduced visibility can make conditions dangerous.
