Another frigid early morning (Thursday) for large parts of Tasmania, with Liawenee setting a new July record at -13.5°C.
Strahan dipped to –2.4°C, Wynyard –1.3°C, Launceston Airport –4°C, Hobart escaped the worst with a low of 3.5°C.

“It’s due to a very cold and dry air mass, combined with clear skies and calm winds beneath a strengthening high pressure system causing those temperatures to plummet.”
The freeze has taken a toll by bursting the water pipes at the Great Lake Hotel in the Central Highlands.
Tasmania’s stretch of frozen mornings rolls on for the next days, with Launceston expected to fall to –4°C tomorrow (Friday), Campania in the south forecast for 0°C.
