A number of near misses involving trains and vehicles at North-West Coast rail crossings is being highlighted by TasRail this week during National Rail Safety Week.
TasRail senior safety specialist Corrie Summers says 63 per cent of crossing incidents in the past 12 months were on the North-West Coast and it’s only a matter of time before a serious smash or fatality occurs unless drivers change their behaviour.
TasRail has released on-train and crossing surveillance video footage of several near misses at crossings in Devonport, Spreyton, Ulverstone and Burnie.
Tne video shows a cyclist shooting the lights in Devonport, while another at Ulverstone shows a car passing in front of a train with only a metre or two to spare.
