kunyani / Mount Wellington has recorded in excess of 120 millimetres of rain since last night and the effects of that are very evident at the south Hobart rivulet (photo) which looks more like a whitewater rafting course than its usual placid self.
At Huonville, police reported a few hours ago that water was over the Esplanade and Flood Road with more closures expected.
On Sky News weather, it is apparent conditions are abating in Hobart.
“We are seeing winds being whipped up, particularly for southern parts of Tassie, we still do have a severe weather warning in place for heavy rain and damaging winds, particularly for southern Tasmania, not quite including Hobart, conditions there easing.”
At 1.08pm, the Bureau of Meteorology cancelled the Severe Weather Warning for the Western, Upper Derwent Valley and South East Forecast Districts.
Widespread heavy rainfall and damaging wind gusts are no longer expected over southeastern Tasmania.
A more localised threat for heavy rainfall and damaging winds associated with shower and thunderstorm activity may return to northeastern Tasmania this afternoon and overnight.
Severe thunderstorm warnings will be issued for this activity if necessary.
