The State Government has called for tenders to design upgrades to the Burnie campus of the North-West Support School.
The proposed $ 3 million upgrades, which will include a new hydrotherapy pool, will transform the school into a modern learning facility able to respond to the diverse and complex needs of students.
The upgrades are being developed in conjunction with a $62 million project for a brand new campus in Devonport.
Last year after considerable public backlash, the Government abandoned plans to consolidate the two campuses on a single site at Penguin.
Two sites are currently under consideration in Devonport, are one at Spreyton and another near The Don College.
Education Minister Jo Palmer says the community consultation process has recently completed and a preferred site is expected to be announced soon.
