Ulverstone triathlete Jack Latham has finished third in the men’s event at the Youth Commonwealth Games in Trinidad and Tobago.

Latham finished 1 minute and 7 seconds behind England’s Luke Holmes to claim the bronze medal at Tobago’s Buccoo Beach, covering the super sprint distance of a 400m swim, 10km bike ride and 2.5 km run in 30 minutes and 38 seconds.

Australia’s Aspen Anderson won gold in the women’s event.

The only Tasmanian in the Australian contingent, Latham will now combine with Anderson, Hannah Pollock, who finished seventh in the women’s event, and Oscar Wootton, who was fifth in the men’s event, for the teams race tomorrow, with the Aussie’s now considered a genuine medal chance.

Latham says the conditions are very hot, but he’s enjoying the weather and the whole games experience.
