The Circular Head Council will be asked to permanently move the Twilight on the Duck Festival to the fourth Saturday in January, rather than on Australia Day.
In a report to be tabled at Thursday night’s monthly meeting for August, says a community survey favoured moving the event away from Australia, as has been the case for the past two years.
However, the report also recommends the council’s Australia Day Awards still be presented on January 26th, with the fireworks display on the same evening.
A number of councils around Australia, including some in Tasmania, have moved traditional celebrations away from January 26th, deeming the date culturally insensitive to first nations people.
Devonport and Burnie City Councils have both moved away from January 26th for the presentation of awards.
