Missing Breakfast affects learning

Breakfast in schools

A new report has found one in three Tasmanian kids are arriving at school without having breakfast - every day.

The findings from Foodbank show the problem is worse in regional and rural schools - with teachers estimating they lose more than two hours of learning time every day - when trying to teach hungry students.

Tasmanian foodbank director Edward Gauden says many family's are finding it tough.

“Parents are trying to work out how to support their own families, you have got the bills coming through like Hydro, with the winter in Tasmania it’s taking more resources away from the family and people are struggling.”
