Tasmania named one of the top travel destinations for 2018

Tasmania is proving itself as a top tourism destination being named number 33 on the New York Times’ list of places to visit in 2018.

The list names 52 places, our state is one of the two Australian destinations that made the cut.

In the midst of Seville in Spain, the Basilicata in Italy and the tropical holiday destination Fiji sits Tasmania – just after Belgrave and one spot in front of Iceland.

Tasmania is described as “attracting the best Australian chefs”, with our oysters and sparkling wines and a booming culinary scene mentioned as top reasons to visit the state.

Hobart restaurants Franklin and Dier Maler are both mentioned, while the Agrarian Kitchen Eatery, located close to a former mental asylum, Willow Court in New Norfolk has raving reviews.

While “Australia’s remote top-end – the northernmost hunk of the Northern Territory” claimed 12th spot.

New Orleans, in Louisiana was first on the list.
