Tributes have been flowing for Tasmanian cricketer and politician Tony Benneworth and his friend Anthony Long.
The pair died in tragic a boating accident in the state's north east when their dinghy went down at Ansons Bay over the weekend.
A third man on board the boat managed to make it to shore
Senator David Bushby said both men were very involved with their community.
"Both men were active, contributing members of the Launceston community and the people
of northern Tasmania will be the worse off for their passing," Mr Bushby said.
"I knew Tony Benneworth well, particularly from his time as a state Liberal member for Bass
and working with him when he ran as the Liberal Party’s candidate in the 2001 Federal
"Tony had a genuine grassroots touch, an ability to relate
and listen to people, to understand their thoughts, their challenges and their feelings."
Inspector Michael Johnston said the three men had been fishing.
"They were moving from one location to another when they came into some difficulty and as a result of that the vessel was swamped and sank quite quickly," he said.
