A Victorian shipwright will be tasked with building Tasmania's next police boat.
The 12 metre vessel will replace the current vessel 'Dauntless', as part of the $10.7 million four-year Large Vessel Replacement Program and will be constructed by Hart Marine.
Police Minister Mark Shelton says the new vessel is expected to be delivered next year.
"It will be fitted out with the latest technology and allow our Marine Police to be able to effectively and safely operate in poor weather conditions and at night," he said.
It will operate principally out of Hobart but will be able to reach the West Coast - Mark Shelton says it will serve as the state's primary Marine and Rescue Services vessel.
