The Department of Health has lodged a development application to the Burnie City Council for a new $10.3 million ambulance super-station which will eventually house and deploy 20 emergency vehicles.
Health Minister and Braddon MP Jeremy Rockliff says the Government has allocated $4.3 million in the current state budget to add to the $6 million previously committed to the project.
Although based in Burnie, Mr Rockliff says the station would serve the wider North-West community.
The station will be built on Government-owned land on the site of the North-West Regional Hospital on Brickport Road.
Mr Rockliff says the new facility will allow for the growing Coastal paramedic workforce to provide the best possible emergency care for the region.
Tenders will be called for the project before the end of the year, with construction expected to start early next year.
