No Receipt, No Refund: Kmart Tightens Returns Policy Nationwide

July 10, 2024 11:08 am in by

Starting August 1, Kmart will enforce a new returns policy requiring customers to present a receipt for “change of mind” refunds. Previously, identity verification was sufficient for returns sans receipts. Now, proof of purchase will become mandatory.

A Kmart spokesperson stated, “In line with most major retailers in Australia, Kmart and Target will be enforcing this returns policy, requiring proof of purchase for ‘change of mind’ returns. We are communicating this change extensively across multiple customer touchpoints to ensure our customers are well-informed ahead of this change coming into effect.”

Customers must return items in their original packaging and resalable condition within 60 days or 365 days for OnePass members. Faulty items can still be returned without a receipt. The new policy will also be implemented in Target stores.

Accepted proofs of purchase include online receipts, Flybuy statements, and Buy Now Pay Later statements. Shoppers are advised to take photos of receipts to keep a digital copy handy. According to a Facebook post, some customers have noted that stores will assist in locating receipts if provided with the date and time of purchase along with a bank statement or proof of purchase.

This change aligns with Kmart’s commitment to streamline the return process and ensure a consistent refund policy across all its stores.
