October 4, 2025 3:00 pm in by

Daylight savings arrives this Sunday the 5th of October. Here’s how it’s going to affect you.

At 2am (AEDT) on October 5th, your phones and clocks will jump forward to 3am. Yes, sadly that means this is one of the time changes where you will LOSE an hour of sleep. Damn you nature! Don’t fret though, you’ll eventually get an hour of sleep back when daylight savings concludes on April 5th, 2026.

The states affected by this are the ACT, NSW, SA, TAS, and VIC. If you’re living in WA, NT, or QLD you sadly could’ve stopped reading this article by now. But please don’t, your attention keeps me employed, but also I’ll break down shortly how your neighbours times changing may affect you (and the NRL Grand Final watch time!)

So, using the NRL Grand Final kick-off time as our example, here is how the time zones will change following Sunday:

For reference, the NRL grand final is set to kick-off at 7:30pm AEDT.

New South Wales, Victoria and the Australia Capital Territory are AEDT. The Grand Final will kick off at 7:30pm in Sydney.

Queensland (AEST), whose time currently matches AEDT will change to be an hour earlier than AEDT as Queensland don’t do daylight savings so their time will remain unchanged. QLD follows AEST, meaning the NRL Grand Final will kick-off in Queensland at 6:30pm – when it’s 7:30pm in NSW where the game is held.

North Territory (ACST) will be an hour and a half behind AEDT (NSW/VIC). So when it’s 7:30pm kick-off time in NSW. You’ll be tuning to watch it live in the NT at 6:00pm.

South Australia (ACDT), is only half an hour behind AEDT (NSW/VIC). Meaning the time to tune in to watch the NRL Grand Final is 7:00pm.

Lastly, Western Australia (AWST) are a full three hours behind AEDT. So you’ll tune in to watch the game at 4:30pm for a lovely afternoon game.

To really simplify things. The times below are all the times the NRL will kick-off in your timezone as of Sunday the 5th and how the times are different in each state.

VIC, NSW, ACT – 7:30pm Australian Eastern Daylight Time (AEDT)

SA – 7:00pm Australian Central Daylight Time (ACDT)
