Fairbrother honoured by AustTriathlon

Prominent North-West businessman and athlete Royce Fairbrother has been honoured at the AusTriathlon awards on the Gold Coast.

Mr Fairbrother received the national services to sport award for his role in advancing the sport in Australia.

A four-times age group world triathlon championship representative for Australia, Mr Fairbrother founded the Devonport Triathlon in 1985, now one of Australia’s longest-running triathlons.

Mr Fairbrother has also supported the event as a sponsor for more than 30 years through his business Fairbrother Constructions, and has been a big supporter of junior development in the sport.

He was also the inaugural chair of Triathlon Tasmania.

Matt Hause and Ashleigh Gentle who have won events at the Devonport Triathlon in recent times were named male triathlete and female triathlete of the year respectively, while former Devonport winners Lauren Parker and Jack Howell were named male and female para-triathletes of the year respectively as well.
