Police have released CCTV footage of a man they believe may have been behind the cause of a gas leak in Devonport on Tuesday morning, which saw the Valley Road and William Street locked down and local residents told to stay inside.
Emergency services responded to a call around 5.30 am, discovering a gas meter had been stolen from a laundry.
Police say the offender caused damage to the property before stealing the gas meter.
The scene was made safe with no injuries reported.
Vision of the offender has been posted on the Tasmania Police Facebook page.
