Attempt to avoid public sector strike

Tasmania’s Premier is keeping the door open for negotiations with the government’s public sector workforce, while standing his ground on not offering unaffordable wage rises.

Teachers, health workers, firefighters and other public staff are to strike on Wednesday November 9th, having rejected the government’s 9% increase over 3 years as Hobart’s inflation of 8.6% has virtually accounted for all of that in the past 12 months.

Labor’s asked Premier Rockliff to reveal his next move.

“We are still in negotiations, another offer is being made at the end of this week, it is not necessary to go ahead with a strike, rather sit down and negotiate in good faith.”
