The North-West Coast looks likely to miss out on thousands of tourists visiting the region next spring and summer, with TasPorts confirming ships operated by Carnival Cruises won’t be docking in Burnie next cruise season.
It’s understood Carnival Cruises is repositioning its fleet towards more international destinations and upgrading to larger vessel which aren’t suitable to dock in Burnie.
Carnival currently operates a fleet of more than 90 ships across multiple brands, including frequent Burnie visitors Queen Elizabeth, Pacific Explorer, Coral Princess, Pacific Adventure.
The Queen Elizabeth, with 2,547 passengers will make its final visit to Burnie on March 8, while the Coral Princess, with 2000 passengers will make her final stop in Burnie on March 23rd.
The two vessels are among 11 cruise ships due to call in between now and the end of the season.
