A Hobart man will have to serve at least 4 years behind bars for sexually abusing two boys, one of them his own son.

The 44 year old, who can’t be named to protect the identity of his victims, entered a late guilty plea to charges including persistent sexual abuse of a child and producing child exploitation material.

The Supreme Court heard he began abusing his son when the victim was as young as 11, also taking obscene photographs when the child was asleep.

The boy ended up homeless on the streets and disclosed the abuse to a school counsellor who alerted police.

Officers raided the offenders home and seized computers and a mobile phone.

This morning (Friday) Justice Gregory Geason handed down a seven year gaol term and placed the man on the sex offenders register for 30 years.
