Coastal police numbers boost

21 new police constables are this morning commencing duties around the state in their new careers including five on the North West Coast.

The five have been posted to Devonport and Burnie in the Western Police District, which also covers Circular Head and the West Coast.

The new constables graduated from the Tasmania Police Academy on Friday after successfully completing their 31-week training course.

An additional 77 recruits are currently in training and Tasmania Police says four more courses are also scheduled to start this year.

The new constables are aged from 19 to 51 come from wide and diverse backgrounds including trades people, a former firefighter, and a number of people with backgrounds in customer service.
