Tasmania has recorded another two Coronavirus deaths in the latest reporting period.
Sadly, two men in their 80s have passed away in the state’s North West and South.
Their passing takes the Covid-19 toll to 96 since the pandemic began.
The news follows 1,588 new cases reported overnight, up from yesterday’s 1,094.
There are currently 76 people in hospital with Covid-19 and of these, 19 are being treated specifically for Coronavirus symptoms.
716 people are using the Covid@Homeplus program, two people are being cared for in Community Case Management Facility.
Public Health is now monitoring 7,743 active cases across the State.
4,253 of those cases are in Tasmania’s South, with 1,864 active cases in the North, and 1,324 in the North West.
More than 185,000 Tasmanians have now recovered from Covid-19.
Meanwhile, some health experts believe it’s important to deliver a fourth Covid jab to more people, than wait for an Omicron specific vaccine.
The key advisory group on immunisation, ATAGI, will discuss expanding the fourth dose of Covid vaccine for under 65’s when it meets tomorrow.
Currently the fourth dose is only recommended for over 65’s and those with significant health issues.
It means others who were quick to get their third dose now have less protection as we head into the depths of winter.
Over 72% of Tasmanians aged 16 years and up have received a third shot, that figure sitting at 86% for locals aged 50 years and older.
As it stands over 65’s and those with co-morbidities are told to get the fourth jab.
ATAGI will discuss expanding it for under 65’s when it meets tomorrow.
