Forest protest could be staged against plans by Sustainable Timbers Tasmania to clear-fell five hectares of native forest near Castra Falls, South of Ulverstone, later this year.
A group calling itself Protect Our North-West Forests has started a petition on the change.org website calling for plan to be abandoned and the area to be preserved.
The group also has a Facebook page and is asking supporters to sign the petition and “lend a hand to the fight.”
It says part of the area designated for logging overlaps the popular Castra Falls Walking Track, which is visited by thousands of people every year to view five stunning waterfalls, large trees more than 350 years old, colourful fungi and rich rainforest.
The petition on change.org was started on March 8, and has attracted more than 900 signatures in its first six days
