Funding locked in for Devonport Sports Master Plan

The State Government and the Opposition have both committed $25 million to secure Devonport’s Sports Master Plan, if elected next month.

The Devonport City Council’s $60 million master plan is ready to go with council and Federal funding already locked in, with the promised state contribution the final piece of the puzzle.

Labor Leader Rebecca White and Premier and Braddon MP Jeremy Rockliff have both pledged funding for the plan.

A centrepiece of the precinct, to be developed on the Eastern side of the Devonport Oval, bordering North Fenton Street, will be a six–court stadium, replacing the ageing Devonport Stadium in Forbes Street, built in 1963.

It’s expected the project will support 180 local construction jobs and provide state-of-the-art facilities catering for seven sports.
