One of Australia’s largest dairy farm at Woolnorth in the Circular Head region, is on the market including eight dairies on the property able to milk more than 7000 cows.
Van Dairy has confirmed the land is for sale following Fonterra opting not to renew Woolnorth’s 25 million litres a year milk supply contract in February.
The subsequent scaling down has led to significant herd culling in the hundreds.
Van Dairy owner Xianfeng Lu purchased Woolnorth in 2016 for $280 million.
Mr Lu says he’s proud of what has been achieved at the property, employing hundreds of locals and investing tens of millions of dollars into improvements on the farm.
He says he’s particularly proud of the 10 per cent of the land set aside as a Tasmanian devil conservation habitat, building of devil-proof fences on Woolnorth Road and leading the charge to have speed limits reduced in the area to reduce devil road kill.
Mr Lu says North-West Tasmania will always hold a special place in his heart.
