Momentum building for show day public holiday shift

Devonport businesses are overwhelmingly in favour of shifting the traditional Devonport Show public holiday to another date.

The holiday falls on the last Friday in November, known locally as the Devonport No-Show holiday, given there’s been no Devonport Show since 2017.

The Devonport Chamber of Commerce and Industry recently surveyed members, who believe a public holiday so close to Christmas is bad for business.

Chamber president Claire Connelly says there’s no date preferred for the switch at this stage, but suggests it could be tied in with a major Devonport event.
