The Latrobe mayor is calling for community support following a surge in Vandalism across the municipality.
Council says roughly 80 thousand dollars of damage has been inflicted by vandals targeting public toilets, recreation areas, sporting facilities and parks over the past few months, spanning more than one hundred incidents.
Mayor Peter Freshney particularly disappointed by recent damage at the Latrobe cemetery, where head stones and memorial structures were found damaged or displaced last week.
Mr Freshney said ultimately the burden of vandalism is carried by the community, as costs mount and damage control diverts time away from new projects.
Latrobe Council say they’ll continue to work with Tasmania Police and other agencies, while exploring measures to better protect community assets and reduce future destruction.
