Police are investigating the cause of a small fire which damaged the scoreboard building at the West Ulverstone Recreation Ground on Saturday night.

Locals on social media are suggesting it’s the latest in a spate of deliberately lit fires in the area set by what have been described as feral youths.

Police and the Tasmania Fire Service were called to the scoreboard fire around 8.30 pm on Saturday night.

The fire was quickly extinguished.

Posts on social media are suggesting those who allegedly lit the fire are also responsible for a number of recent rubbish tin fires and minor blazes, suggesting if they aren’t stopped soon, it could lead to a major fire where someone is injured or worse

Police say investigations into the cause of the scoreboard fire are ongoing, but they are seeking public assistance and encouraging anyone with information about it or other recent similar small fires to contact them on 131 444 of anonymously through Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000 or on-line at crimestopperstas.com.au
