Details of stage one of the major upgrades of the University of Tasmania (UTAS) Stadium have been released today.

“The UTAS stadium upgrade plans… will provide an increase of more than 1,000 seats, while significantly improving facilities for players, coaches and fans-alike,” Premier Rockliff said.

“A new entertainment precinct, as well as improved food and beverage facilities will ensure the fans that flock to UTAS Stadium will have a memorable experience.

“An upgraded UTAS stadium will not only see more elite sports being played in the north of the state, including supporting a future Tasmanian AFL Team, it will also generate immense economic benefits to the region.”

Minister for State Development, Construction and Housing, Guy Barnett, said the upgrades will ensure teams playing at UTAS Stadium will have facilities that are at an appropriate standard for elite sport.

“Stage one works will include refurbishment of home and away change rooms, a refurbished umpire’s room and new AFL interchange benches,” Minister Barnett said.

“Planning for these new facilities is well underway and we expect construction to kick off later in the year, once planning and development approvals are received.

Stage one of the UTAS Stadium upgrades are projected to be completed in early 2025.

The Tasmanian Government will continue to seek the additional investment required from the Australian Government to undertake future stages of the $200 million UTAS Stadium redevelopment.
