More than 2000 mature-aged rowers from all over Australia and overseas will converge on the North-West Coast next month for the Australian Masters Rowing Championships at the Lake Barrington International Rowing Course.

The championships will run over four days from May 8th to 11th, featuring more than 300 races for rowers aged from 27 to over 80.

More than 150 Tasmanians will also be involved in the event either as competitors or volunteers.

Rowing Tasmania CEO Rob Prescott says the event will provide a considerable economic boost to the North-West Coast, with most of the accommodation between Burnie and Launceston expected to be taken up by people involved with the event.

Mr Prescott says he expects many competitors and officials will also stay on to tour the state after the titles.
