Mayfield man charged after reported Sunday incident

Tasmania Police has charged a Mayfield man with a string of offences, after a reported disturbance over the weekend.

Officers had shut down parts of Mayfield and Hargraves Streets on Sunday following calls from the public.

As part of ongoing police enquiries, police have seized a sawn-off shotgun and a quantity of drugs, which police will allege were in the man’s possession.

A 30-year-old man has been charged with:

  • Possess firearm in contravention of firearms prohibition order.

  • Possess a firearm when not the holder of a firearm licence of the appropriate category.

  • Possess shortened firearm.

  • Possess ammunition when not the holder of the appropriate firearm licence.

  • Resist a Police Officer.

  • Drug Offences.

Initial investigations indicate the incident on Sunday night was isolated, targeted, and between people known to each other.

The man has been detained to face the Launceston Magistrates Court.
