There’s a new offering for tourists looking for a luxury boating expedition in Tasmania’s south.

Philanthropist Dick Smith was on hand at Macquarie Wharf 2 to launch the Odalisque III on Tuesday.

The Richardson Devine Marine-built $6.5 million catamaran will take up to a dozen guests on multi-day cruises to the Southwest National Park.

“Port Davey in the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area is one of the most precious places in the world,” Mr Smith said.

“Businesses like On Board, who immerse guests in this incredible wilderness, providing luxury but with a care and passion for the place, are pioneering the future of Tasmania’s tourism.”

Owner/skipper Pieter van der Woude says Bathurst Harbour is still the same as when he first visited it 40 years ago.

“My passion for discovering, sharing and conserving remote Tasmanian places stemmed from commercial abalone diving for 25 years in Tasmania’s remote coastal places, in particular, the Southwest,” he said.

“The experience will merge indulgence with adventure, rewarding guests for effort with fine fare, and exclusive access to remote locations few will ever reach.”
