The Devonport Regatta is about to undergo the biggest chance in its 66-year history.
The event, which features Tasmania’s richest power boat race, the John Palmer Memorial Cock of the Mersey, will relocate to a new venue several kilometres up the Mersey River at Horsehead Creek.
The regatta, which normally attracts thousands of spectators, will also switch from a Sunday event to a Saturday twilight programme on March 2nd.
Regatta president Nigel Palmer the move was prompted by safety concerns related to holding the regatta in the main port area of the river.
Mr Palmer says the regatta will still feature all the usual attractions besides power boat racing, including live music and entertainment, a fashion parade and championship woodchopping.
