Tasmanian Police say they’re frustrated by motorists who continue to break the rules – especially young people driving too fast.
It comes after a P1 driver was fined $543 and lost 5 demerit points after he was detected travelling at excessive speed on Oaks Road at Carrick on the weekend.
About 3:30pm on Saturday members from the Northern Road Policing Services detected a white Toyota Hilux travelling at 118km/h in an 80km/h zone where it was then intercepted.
The 17 year old male from Legana has been issued with an infringement notice for speeding. Police say the vehicle was also not displaying P plates as required. Being a provisional driver who normally only hold 4 demerit points, he is also now subject to a loss of licence.
Tasmania Police Service is reminding motorists to slow down and obey all speed limits, including any speed restrictions regarding their licence.
“Speeding is one of the ‘fatal five’ contributors to both serious and fatal crashes and puts road users at risk, particularly as provisional drivers are inexperienced and there were passengers in the vehicle. Tasmania Police will continue to target the behaviour of drivers committing any of the ‘Fatal Five’ offence anywhere, anytime. Enough is enough.”
