A severe weather warning has been issued on Wednesday morning for potential flash flooding for an area between Orford and St Helens and just east of Campbell Town.
The Weather Bureau is forecasting six-hourly rainfall totals of between 40 and 60 millimetres.
It follows initial minor flood warnings for the South Esk and Macquarie Rivers, while the Derwent and southeast catchments are on flood watch following totals of more than 50 millimetres at Little Swanport.
Hobart Airport recorded more than 30 millimetres in the 24 hours since 9am Tuesday while around 40 fell at Campania.
The low-pressure system responsible for the wet weather is expected to hover off the northeast for the rest of the week.

Flooding in nearby streams and rivers is likely.
Some low-lying properties may become isolated by flood waters.
Property, livestock, equipment, and crops in low lying areas may be at risk from flood waters.
Driving conditions may be dangerous.
