Tasmania’s Safe Spaces Programme which provides crisis accommodation for the homeless has had its state government funding locked in for another three years.
The programme currently delivers 88 beds spread across sites in Hobart, Burnie and Launceston.
City Mission’s Stephen Hill joining the funding announcement in Launceston today.
“Key that we know for supporting people who are in crisis is offering an environment that has consistency and stability and so we’re delighted with the news that the three year contract provides that stability that we have, it puts confidence for our workforce.”
Housing Minister Guy Barnett acknowledging the service is just the first step in keeping people housed.
“Just the last couple of months there’s been fantastic news in terms of transition from emergency accommodation through to more long term social housing, this is making a difference in people’s lives.”
