Smoke no cause for alarm

May 7, 2024 10:45 am in by

Residents of Devonport, Spreyton and Melrose should not be concerned if they see or smell smoke in the Stony Rise area over the next few days.

Weather permitting, the Tasmania Fire Service will be conducting a burn-off as part of its statewide fuel reduction programme.

The burn-off will cover around 34 hectares and is expected to last for several days, depending on wind conditions.

Public access to the area will be restricted during the burn.

Signage will be in place and the public is being asked to stay well out of the area for the following days while safety checks have been made along trails and tracks.

While the fire intensity will be low, it will still generate flames, smoke and ash and anyone with medical conditions which may be affected is being asked to activate their personal plan for avoiding smoke.
