TasRacing has walked away from a plan to build a new greyhound and harness racing facility on the North-West Coast near the Devonport Airport to replace the Devonport Showgrounds venue, which closed more than two years ago to make way for an as-yet to commence housing development.
TasRacing CEO Andrew Jenkins says the $18 million project had blown out to more than $38 million, making it cost prohibitive.
Coastal industry participants have been shocked and surprised with the decision as the news still sink in.

North West Greyhound Racing Club president and trainer Ben Englund says its disappointing and frustrating and will force some participants out of the industry.
