Two sites in Tasmania’s south under consideration for a new therapeutic Youth Justice Centre have been made public in parliament today.
Children’s Minister Roger Jaensch disclosed that one is between Pontville and Mangalore on Brighton Road and the other is at Risdon near the East Derwent Highway.
“Because of their substantial size, their proximity to Hobart and services, their separation from major residential areas.”
Due to it’s deeply troubled history, the Ashley Youth Detention Centre near Deloraine is to close before the end of next year, with a number of new facilities to take its place.
Consultation closes on April 17, with all feedback received to be considered before a final decision is made on the location for the new centre.
